1.0 Project Description
During the program, we intend to use all local theatre groups
especially the Vitimbi Theatre Group and Actors from Kenya
National Theatre and various churches and schools.
1.1 Informing theatre
groups
The first activity would be to inform the existing theatre
groups of the need to join hand and have a louder "voice"
to promote child's right education in
Nairobi
slums i.e Mathare, Kibera
and pastoral communities i.e. Narok, Kajiado, Pokot etc.
These groups would include cultural and theatre groups that
entertain in various T.V. programme, church and social gathering
in
Kenya
.
The main advantage of using the existing theatre groups
is that they come from this communities and understand well
the problems that exist and also well known to the community.
1.2 Theatre Development
workshop
A two-day workshop
will be held to develop themes for the theatre. The participants
would include theatre representatives, opinion leaders,
youth group leaders, church youth representatives and other
well wishers.
This workshop will discuss various problems affecting (directly
or indirectly) the education of girls and also come up with
methods of addressing them.
The workshop will also influence these theatre groups into
preparing plays, drama, for promotion of child right education.
The participants
of the workshop will also help in co-ordination and planning
of the theatre performance in the various sections of the
villages in
Kenya
.
1.3 Dissemination of information
The project hopes to use printed and folk media to pass
information on the importance of child right education.
During every performance the participants will carry some
pamphlets, posters and tracts to educate and inform the
community to support the education of child rights.
OFF LACK is committed in sensitizing the child about their
right and Advocate for the review of the current constitution
to give maximum protection of the child right as the current
constitution does not cater fully for all aspect pertaining
to children and their right.
To fully appreciate the present constitutional attitude
towards children in
Kenya
, one must understand the actual implications
of the wording and effect of chapters V and VI of the
current Constitution of Kenya. Chapter V,
as already indicated, governs the Fundamental
Rights and Freedoms of Citizen, while chapter VI addresses
the issue of Citizenship.
These chapters bear immediate and direct relevance to protection
of Children's Rights. A critical analysis of the two reveals
four startling scenarios: |
